I feel like that is said every year, but things don't seem to change. The selling season has gone ok, not what I would've liked but I'm learning. I think I want to focus more on online sales and building up my business that way. It has been pretty crappy for my mental health to be constantly worrying about what to make and to try and guess what people will want to buy. Starting this new year I am going to be making what I want to make. Maybe open up for custom orders for a limited period and that's it. I have been a ball of stress since August and I was noticing that I was starting to dread going into my office to make things, I don't what that. Especially after making the big investment of the industrial machine.

I have some of my Halloweens/Spooky bags listed for sale on a shopify site, Etsy will be for digital items like svg files and sublimation designs.

Look for more updates this coming year!

Happy Holidays and Happy Crafting!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-62990227168714224432023-10-18T23:00:00.002-04:002023-10-18T23:00:41.247-04:00Life Updates and Another New Sewing Machine

Well well, it's been another 9 months since my last post. Oops. I really don't do it on purpose I swear, I've been super busy making bags and getting inventory for my local pop up shop where my makes are for sale. It's been a fun experience and I'm hoping once the Holiday season really kicks into gear my sales will pick up as well.

As I mentioned in the title, I did get a new machine! A Juki DU1181N to be exact. It's an industrial and I love her, her name is Layla. The only thing she can't sew is unlined cotton and I have another machine for that. The Janome HD5000 is fantastic and I love that machine but when it came to thick seams it still was a struggle and I was tired of manhandling the machine to get it to do what I wanted. This new one sews through anything I throw at it.

My online presence has been spotty lately I am trying to post more on social media but life gets in the way and it doesn't always work out. At the end of the summer my husband and I were in a bad car wreck, physically we both could be better. My husband especially is still in a lot of pain from the accident and we are both seeing specialists. So as you can imagine things have been different in our house lately. We got another dog in August of 2022 and we love her very much. She's a Havanese and her name is Jasmine. She's fresh and doesn't like to go on the paper and she is also destructive, as just tonight I pulled one of my daughter's no longer lost airpods out of her mouth and it was in 3 pieces. Love her, but my goodness, she's a menace. We also no longer have any babies in the house, our youngest turned TEN and there's something about when your youngest is into double digits. We also have an almost 14 year old, and I just turned 40. So, yeah.

Jasmine, the Trouble Maker

BUT I am loving sewing, I am loving the creativity of the community, it's very special and not as competitive as some other crafts. Janome HD5000BE
Before I get into the fun stuff with my new sewing machine, I would like to say a fond farewell to my Brother SE-400. It gave me many good years of sewing and I'm sad to see it go, I just don't use the embroidery like I thought I would and I needed a machine that can handle thicker layers since I'm getting more into bag making.

With that being said, my new machine is a Janome HD5000BE, I LOVE this machine. It's mechanical so there was a slight learning curve for me, but other than that it has been a joy to use so far. The threading is easy and it still has a top loading bobbin that I was already used to, I think it's a great next step up for me since I'm no where near ready (and don't have the space) for an industrial.

It does everything I need it to without all of the bells and whistles, it is sturdy, and the stitches look fantastic. I keep the zipper foot on 95% of the time but when you do have to switch feet it is a low shank machine so the snap on ones are great, but if you do have to switch the whole foot out that's easy too with the screwdriver. My machine came with the quilting kit which came with extra feet, which will be nice if I ever need them but for now this is great. I found an extra narrow low shank zipper foot which has become my favorite.

The HD stands for Heavy Duty and yes it can handle multiple layers of faux leather, vinyl and even denim. I'm not sure if the market is oversaturated or if my SEO needs work (or both) but not only did I not sell anything, my items didn't get any traffic. So I'm going to turn my focus to other projects for the time being.

I recently got a new sewing machine so I think I may do a review. This is going to be a short post, but I am planning on being more active in the coming year, and hopefully have more physical products listed on my Etsy shop.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-59745796313521749832022-11-08T16:00:00.002-05:002022-11-08T16:13:00.573-05:00Making Invitatons with Corjl

-This is not a sponsored post.

I am a collector, I'm not sure if a lot other crafty people are, but as someone with (undiagnosed) ADHD I think it's one of my quirks. I like to collect craft supplies and that includes clip art. I have folders upon folders of clip art and I had really, nothing to do with them, well, now I do. I've started working with Corjl, and if you've ever purchased an editable item on Etsy you've probably seen listings with it before. I had used it a few times to make my kids their party invites and I didn't have any issues with the process.

Right now (as of November 2022) They are offering a 2 week free trial if you want to make some designs and give it a whirl. I have my designs tied to my Etsy store, but you can also use Shopify. When you sign up you are given access to a digital folder with lots of resources for your store listings, as well as logos.

I am going to give a very simple overview of how it works. When you open your seller account you can choose to start a new design. Once you choose your size parameters you can start the design process. Upload your images (make sure you have the proper licenses) and you can drag and drop your images into the artboard and make it look how you want. You can go to the fonts tab and choose the fonts they have available or you can subscribe to their Creative Fabrica font package. If you already have a CF subscription, you can't link them, I tried.

After your design is how you want it you need to download a copy to use in your listings. Once you do this you need to create a listing in Corjl to match up to the listing in your Shop. OH! one thing I forgot to mention was you get a DEMO of your product! Your customer can try it out and see if it works for them before purchasing, and then they can purchase right from the demo. Your demo link is on the Listing page for that particular item. I recommend trying everything out first before you publish your listing on your shop. You also attach your etsy (or shopify) listing number, to the listing in Corjl. It sounds like a lot, but honestly it's not too bad once you get used to the interface.

That's the jist of it, honestly there's a bit more to cover but if you have a ton of graphics like I do and have no idea what to do with them, this is a good way to use them and make passive income. If you give Corjl a try, let me know what you think!

Here are some birthday invites I made up using the graphics I hoard and Corjl.

You can click on my Etsy button on the right of the blog to find the invites if you're interested in purchasing.

Enjoy!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-42284819842818439022022-01-17T21:02:00.001-05:002022-01-17T21:02:35.539-05:00Mini Faux Leather Zip Pouch Tutorial

If you're looking for a super fast, easy zipper pouch to make I have the perfect one for you right here on the blog. I found something in the craft world that I absolutely hate working with. RESIN. I only worked with UV resin and only one brand, but from what I experienced, I can confidently say, I won't work with resin ever again.

It smells, it's messy, it's STICKY and just not my favorite thing. This is something I have zero patience for. I'm so impressed by the people who make it look easy because, crafty people...it is not.

My first attempt was keychains. Those weren't too bad, I used glitter with them and only did one side. My UV light wasn't adequate so I ended up upgrading but that was another issue. I had also tried badge reels but I couldn't get them to lay flat after curing and they were a mess. I guess my feeling is I have so many other projects that I have going at once and this one in particular was causing me stress and anxitey and frankly wasn't worth my time anymore. I would sit in my craft room for hours wanting to create something but had a block about it because the resin was sitting there taunting me.

Recently I have been doing a lot of cleaning out of my supplies and decided that they ( and 11 garbage bags of yarn) needed to go. As of now July 2021, there is a lot of supplies available. Contact me through my Facebook page if you are interested. Once they are gone I will update the post. I normally will take longer to see if something is for me or not, but after the last two attempts and getting frustrated I just decided it's best to walk away from it.

I will still be doing work with vinyl, still be sewing, knitting and crocheting. But as far as making keychains or anything with Resin, if you have something I've made that's going to be it. Mercifully, for my wallet, this is one hobby I won't be going any further into.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-89482850243652321372021-02-11T10:40:00.002-05:002021-06-17T09:46:08.719-04:00Digital Art and Procreate

Because I am the luckiest woman ever, and because he’s pretty awesome, my husband recently got me a brand new iPad Pro with 2nd gen Apple Pencil. I knew I wanted to start designing using my iPad so I downloaded Procreate. It isn’t free, it’s $9.99 but that’s it, it’s a one time purchase and all of the amazing features and tools are yours. No in-app purchases are required. I mostly plan on using it to make design elements for sublimation and other online design mediums. It is a lot of fun to play with and there is so much to learn.

To overly simplify it, procreate is a digital medium to create pretty much anything you want. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks so I haven’t even scratched the surface of what it can do. But I have watched a few tutorials and videos on YouTube and am excited to dive in further. These are two of the projects I've made so far with very limited drawing experience. I would highly recommend this app if you are thinking of trying digital art.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-84463042762732054382021-01-14T13:27:00.002-05:002021-01-14T13:27:40.839-05:00Bye Bye Printful

If anyone has been wondering how the Printful experiment went, well, it was ok. I have to say I had zero issues with the products themselves, they were very good quality and the print quality was also great.

My issue was, and maybe it was just because of the kind of Etsy store I have, is that it didn't really fit in what I was looking for. My profit margin just wasn't there and I know I'm not alone. If you start off with a shirt that costs $13 and add in shipping, that shirt is costing you at minimum $17, say you are selling the shirt for $22-$25, your profit is less than $10 per shirt. Where as I can get a blank shirt from All Day Shirts for less than $2 each, cut out my own design from my vinyl stash for less than $1 and all of the profit is mine.

I don't sell a lot of shirts or physical products anymore anyway so losing the POD (Print on Demand) part of my Etsy won't hurt my sales much. In fact, my plan is to take the designs that I did have on Printful, redo and revamp some of them so they are SVG's and sell those. That way I can share my designs with other crafters and not have any of the overhead once the design is complete.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-44209446478493926382021-01-11T11:28:00.005-05:002021-01-11T11:42:41.733-05:00Blog Redesign!
It's been a long time, but I finally redesigned the blog! I have wanted to do it for years, but like anything that is for myself I was being too picky and indecisive so I just put it off. And finally after the dumpster fire of a year that was 2020, I decided that I wouldn't put it off any longer and did the redesign for this year.

I used elements I downloaded from Creative Fabrica for the font and the graphic elements. I ended up making some adjustments but overall I'm really happy with the new, simple, elegant look. I will be uploading new designs to the shop soon, but my design time has been cut down with having the kids home doing virtual school.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-27424305830285333162020-07-20T13:31:00.005-04:002023-06-15T13:20:28.055-04:00Creative FabricaDisclaimer: This is an affiliate post, which means that if you purchase any products or sign up for a subscription using my links, I will receive money for it.

But this post has some cool stuff in it. because recently I have discovered Creative Fabrica! I hope you are all staying safe! I wanted to show a step by step guide of how I make my face masks.

The pattern I used can be found here at Hello Sewing I will note that in the pattern is says to do a 1/2" seam allowance, this ended up being too much and the masks were coming out too small so I have been doing 1/4" for all seam allowances. I also printed the template out on cardstock in each size so I could have them available when I needed them.

Ok so let's get started. So in this first photo I have the two pieces of fabric for the inner layer, pretty sides together ready to sew.

Another tip was I used my Cricut Mini Press to help with cutting and pressing the lines so I didn't have my bigger iron to deal with. Once the pattern is cut and you get used to making them you can finish a mask in under 30 minutes. I have made over 100 of them so far and and going to need to replenish my fabric stash when this is all over. (oh and I did my own nails during Quarantine using a Polygel nail kit from Amazon, I didn't go to a salon!)

Happy Crafting!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-2969839643770689372019-12-29T21:56:00.001-05:002019-12-30T11:18:42.755-05:00Holiday Crafts! This Holiday Season I was pretty busy with my Air Explore 2. Once I got my Cricut Easy Press out of the box and was brave enough to try it, I fell in love with using Heat Transfer Vinyl and I'm so happy that I have branched out into making different things.

This year my best sellers were the Christmas Elves and Moose from the Dollar Tree. Throw on some HTV to personalize and they were a huge hit.
Another set of really popular items were the customized pot holders and cutting boards. (Also from the Dollar Tree!)

I also made Santa Cams- which were made from Nightlights from the Dollar Tree and cell phone wide lenses also from, you guessed it, the Dollar Tree. Then I used Extreme glitter Mod Podge on the backs of the nightlights to add some sparkle and to cover the scratches that are on them. You can also use frost spray but I didn't like how they came out. Then I just added a small vinyl decal and a tiny rhinestone to look like a Record light. I love how they came out and they were a hit too.
Buffalo Plaid was everywhere this year, including the Dollar Tree, they had these adorable faux fur topped stockings that were perfect for personalization.
Acrylic ornaments were something else that I really enjoyed making this year, I made dozens of them with names, images and they were a little challenging because they are so small but the finished product came out really pretty.
I always have the best of intentions to keep writing and keep it updated but life gets in the way and I'm just bad at it.
I won’t be making anymore promises of more frequent updates but I will post when I can here and I have been a bit more active on Instagram and Facebook.

For Mother’s Day this year my wonderfully sweet husband bought me a Cricut Air Explore 2! It took me a bit to bust it out and start crafting but I have made lots of items so far and now that he also gave me an Easy Press I can start making items with Heat Transfer Vinyl. I am so excited for all of the possibilities! One of the other projects I just discovered is Hair Bows!

They are so fun and easy to make I am addicted, for now I’m starting with Halloween bows but I also have my eye on some other holiday patterns as well as mermaid and unicorn bows!
The items I used are Faux Leather sheets from amazon, there are a TON of options to pick from but these are my favorite brand.
You also need alligator or French hair clips and of course your hot glue gun.
You will also need a template to cut out your bows. There are a bunch in Etsy or if you’re feeling creative you can make your own!
Oh and I also made the display cards using a template I purchased here and some card stock! So easy and fun!

Hello everyone! I am trying to post more this year so I am starting off with a new pattern from me! I have made this ADORABLE sack hat in 5, yes FIVE sizes. From little bitty baby heads to big noggins, I got you covered.

The easiest part of this hat believe it or not are the little hearts! With your main color on your hook, insert your hook, yarn over with your accent color, close out the stitch with the main color. That's it! Nice and easy! What's not easy for me was deciding how I was going to carry my yarn. This is a personal preference and you can do it however you're comfortable. You can either carry it UNDER your stitches and tuck the yarn in-
Pros- No yarn hanging out on the inside of the hat

Cons- You can see it through the stitches
-This drives me crazy so I went with option B.
Carry the yarn OUTSIDE of the stitches, this will cause yarn to hang on the inside of the hat, but I don't mind it much. it's the inside of the hat so I don't think it's a big deal, plus you can always go up a hook size and line with fabric.
Also, Pom Poms. yarn ones, fur ones, tassels, I would love to see people's projects with these added embellishments!

You can find the pattern either on Etsy or Ravelry

Happy New Year Everyone!! I don't know about you but I am delighted to say goodbye to 2018 and welcoming 2019 with open arms. I had lost my craft-jo for a while and I'm happy to say it is back.
A few weeks ago I was browsing my favorite crochet group on Facebook and stumbled upon this gorgeous brown slouchy hat. It had texture and personality, and the designer was looking for testers! I crossed my fingers and applied to be a tester, once accepted I'm pretty sure I started working on it right away. I had the first hat done in a couple hours and I was quite literally hooked on this pattern. Since I have made about 5 of them and plan on many more.
The pattern is paid, but is well worth it. I have already sold one of them and it has paid for itself. I made the purple one from a Caron Chunky Cupcake it doesn't have the same drape as the lighter yarns but it is still adorable and my kids love them, plus they come with their own coordinating pom poms so I couldn't pass up that sale at Michael's. The teal hat was made with Red Heart Super Saver Ombré yarn, and the oatmeal color is Vanna's Choice in Wheat. This one was super soft and one of my faves, I gave it as a Christmas gift and was sad to see it go but I will be making myself one to keep!

The designer of this beautiful hat (and many other lovely designs) is Amber from Heartfully Stitched you can find the link to the pattern here. Or you can get to it through my project page on my Ravelry acct linked above.

Give this one a shot, it is worth it!
Since 2003 I had a shop (ok, multiple) on CafePress. At the time it was a pretty revolutionary thing. You could upload your design, put it on items, carry no inventory and make money doing it. For the first few years this worked great. Any amount over the base price was your profit no matter how the customer found you.
A few years ago, they changed their commission structure to a flat 10% of your sale. You could raise the amount of your commission based on a few factors, but one of the main ones was of getting followers and following other designers. After seeing tiny commission for an item that cost the customer $25.00 I had decided I had enough, I needed to find another print on demand business.
I had heard of Society6 and Zazzle but wasn't impressed with them or the others like it. I was looking around on YouTube and kept seeing Printful pop up. I was intrigued but skeptical. I looked into it further and decided to try it out.
I really like the way they handle things down to the packaging. You can put your black and white logo on the packing slips and the envelopes/boxes that they use to ship. So it looks like it's coming from your online store and not a third party printer. I also like the integration to Etsy, all I have to do is link my store, upload my designs, select the products and once you sync, the item will automatically be dumped into your Drafts on Etsy where you can finalize it.
Another cool feature is you can buy from your own shop at a discounted rate and also order samples. I set up some items a few months ago and haven't really promoted it but I have had a few sales. I'm not going to depend on this for my income or anything but it's a nice option. Anyone that is into designing full time should look into it. Oh, and they integrate with tons of sites, not just Etsy. Shopify, BigCommerce and even Ebay are a few of them. There are also detailed video tutorials on setting everything up.
One aspect I was confused about was the payment structure. Printful allows you to have a "Wallet" which you can load money into. When someone places an order the money is taken from the wallet/your paypal account/your bank card to pay for the initial order. Your profit comes from whatever store platform you use. For example. One of my t-shirts is priced at $25.00, the base price for the shirt is $17.00 so Printful charges me the $17.00 for the shirt and everything else is handled through Etsy. I get the full $25.00+shipping but you just have to subtract the initial $17.00. It isn't clearly spelled out but once I got my first order I figured it out pretty quickly. $8.00+ profit is much better than the dollar or less I was getting from CafePress.
I haven't ordered a sample yet as of the time of this post, but I am planning on it very soon. Once I do I will review it.

Sorry it's been so long again! Summer is finally here so things are only a tiny bit less hectic in our house. I'm going to enjoy every minute of it because very soon my youngest will be off to Kindergarten!
Anyway- that's not why you're here. You're probably here because you want more information about the magic knot that I used in my Rainbow Dash Blanket. I wanted to update because I had read a lot of other crocheters were having issues with the knots coming undone.
I'm happy to report that almost 2 years later (OMG!) that the blanket is still in pretty good shape. There were a couple of spots where I had to reknot the yarn-which was not fun. But all in all it was OK. My biggest gripe with the magic knot is, well- the knots. Depending on where you join the yarn and how good you are at pulling the knot tight it can get unsightly. I tried my hardest to hide the color changes but sometimes they are unavoidable. I also made a Draculaura blanket using the same technique. it was A LOT larger than Rainbow Dash and it took a long time, but it would've taken me 3x longer if I had to deal with sewing ends in.
My advice is this. practice with the technique a lot, it can be tricky to get it down at first and you don't want to be playing around with it on a commissioned project or something you want to sell down the line.
Once you practice- do it more. Seriously make a whole chain of weird ass color changes just to get a good feel for it, play around with where in the stitches you join your yarn so you can hide the knot.
Do a swatch. An actual swatch, probably 20x20 stitches with some color changes so you can you guessed it, practice some more.
Once you get the hang of it you'll be a pro. As long as you're pulling tight enough your yarn shouldn't break. There are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube to help you out as well!

Here's Draculaura so you can see how massive she was! It was over a year ago that I made her but I believe the graph was 180x100 if you zoom in you can see some of the knots.

Now, instead of the lbs and ounces reading as 7.11 they are separated and easier, and more importantly, correct.

So here they are!
Wow, I really haven't written anything here in almost a year?! Shame on me! I'm not going to promise that I will blog more, but I will try. So. I finished this project awhile ago but I wanted to write a post about it here.

This pattern was purchased in a bundle of Baby Superheroes by Nella's Cottage. What I did was basically double all of the pieces and assebmbled- (get it?! my jokes aren't on point.) all of the pieces together to make a ragdoll. My husband is a huge Hulk fan so when I saw this pattern I just had to make it. I will probably make the other characters at some point as it was a lot of fun to make this. He's such a cutie!

I'll try not to wait 11 months until my next post!!

I made a couple for my kids but stayed away from making tons of them. However, this hat was super fast to work up - under an hour! and I managed to make 2 of these hats and an ear warmer out of 2 skeins!

I was looking through my yarn stash last night and came across some yarn that I was waiting to use. It's gorgeous and I love it, but the varying thickness of it made it a little difficult to find the perfect project for it. I think I may have found a great way to use it!

The yarn I'm talking about is Paton's Iced. I had 3 colorways in my stash and now I can't wait to go through them all. The pattern is very simple, and you can download it here! I included it in the notes on the pattern, I want to say it again, the whole hat is worked in Back Loop Only, so make sure you know how to do it!

I also uploaded it to Ravelry

Happy Hooking!

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've made a post, I try to keep active on my Facebook page, but it seems like I have less and less time for actual blog posts. I'm going to try and change that though, I miss blogging and am going to make that a goal of mine for the next few months!

So, what brings me to this blog post is my NE Pats graph. I'm a loyal NE fan and I wanted to make this to show my pride in my team. I had it for sale in my Etsy shop, but apparently the NFL didn't like my $3.00 listing so it was removed. I am not going to fight them, I used their logo as inspiration, but I did draw the graph. Since I don't have the time or the budget to fight with them over it, I am going to offer it for free here on my blog. I will not upload it to ravelry, as I have a feeling they will remove it as well.

So, here it is. You can download the PDF here. You need to cut out and tape the pages together for it to work. Just an FYI, the pattern is 100x75.

Happy Hooking and GO PATS!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-48479093467642531732016-08-09T10:42:00.000-04:002016-08-09T10:52:16.417-04:00Rainbow Dash Blanket and the Magic KnotAs much as I love making graphgans, I hate changing colors. Keeping tons of bobbins from getting tangled and ALL.OF.THE.SEWING. required was enough to give me pause on starting another project. Not to mention, when doing the other C2C blankets I noticed that even after extensive weaving my ends would still come lose and poke out of the blanket. Not what you want to see after all of that hard work!

Then I discovered the magic knot. What is it? Well, it's a great way to join your yarn colors together so that you have NO ENDS TO WEAVE IN. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube to show you how to make the knot but once you do, watch this video because it shows you how to incorporate the magic knot into your project.

So, with all of this in mind I decided to try my hand at another graphgan. Both of my girls chose one for their birthdays, and my little one's was first. She chose Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony. I went back and forth on choosing a particular graph but the winner was this one.

I LOVE how he came out, the instructions were easy to follow and I've started another one of her patterns already.

Although his name was Bob, he was renamed Bubble Butt after a rescue turtle and he is very happy in his new home.

Love him! Can't wait to make more!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177936111119915759.post-48703463750383281362016-06-09T11:26:00.000-04:002016-06-09T11:47:03.950-04:00Pattern Talk: Paid Vs. FreeI've been meaning to write about this for awhile. When I ventured out past the world of scarves and blankets I was starting to look at more and more patterns. Before Pinterest came along, I depended mostly on Ravelry (and still do) when I'm looking for a pattern.

Without fail, every time I was searching for an idea, the first thing I would do was check off that little box next to "Free" there was no way I was paying for a pattern. I no longer do this and I'll tell you why. Pattern writing is not easy. For anyone that's attempted it, it can be daunting and there are a lot of little parts that go into it. And while it's not the case every time, there's a reason why some patterns are paid and some are free.

For a pattern to be a "good" pattern it needs to meet certain criteria.
1. Write out all special stitches, notes, and materials needed.
2. Stitch count at the end of each row (very important!!!)
3. Clear, well thought out instructions.

Sometimes when you're doing a stitch or pattern you've done forever it doesn't occur to you that someone looking at it with fresh eyes might have a hard time with it, it's best to spell everything out as clearly as possible.

This isn't to say that there shouldn't be free patterns or that all free patterns are crappy, of course not. But what I'm getting at here is don't write a pattern off because it's not free. If it's for a project you're making for a customer you will more than make your money back. And even if it's for a gift, in my opinion I'd rather pay for a pattern and come out with a finished project I love than something that doesn't look as nice but the pattern was free.
Of course, I do realize that not everyone can afford to pay for patterns and I know that there are TONS of designers that do offer their designs for free. The lesson here is, they are both wonderful options and I'm so grateful to the designing community out there for sharing their creativity. I've only dabbled in the world of pattern making (mostly graphs) and it can be stressful so I truly appreciate all of the hard work, patience and time that goes into making them.

While I'm talking about Paid patterns I would like to shine a spotlight on one designer in particular- One & Two Company who saved me from project hell this week without even knowing it. (Which led me to write this post, lol) I was needing a pattern for a Sea Turtle. I searched Ravelry, Etsy and Pinterest and kept seeing her pattern, I favorited and kept going. Ultimately I chose a free one from Ravelry because, well, it was free and it looked easy enough. Wrong. After I completed the parts for the shell and joined them, the instructions for the rest of the shell were a disaster. No row counts, and the pattern in general was sloppily written and just not good. I decided to cut my losses and went back to my first choice Bob the Turtle. I absolutely ADORE this pattern. It is very well done, lots of illustrations, I would buy all of her patterns if I could afford them. Bob is going to be a birthday gift for a special little girl, so I will be sharing the finished project after he is in his forever home.

Lesson learned for me. All patterns are not created equally and don't shy away from the paid ones, while they're not all perfect ( I know mine aren't but I do my best) give them a shot! You might be pleasantly surprised!

What do you think? Do you ever buy patterns? Do you have a pattern wish list like I do?

Happy Crafting!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
